Last week I was so tired. I honestly couldn’t wake up in the morning. It’s strange, I feel like I go through phases of feeling lethargic for no apparent reason and then phases of practically jumping out of bed at sunrise. A middle ground would be nice. I spent my weekend out of London and in the sunny (yet windy beyond belief) delights of Margate. Have since decided that it would be great to go on a tour of other UK towns and cities. TBC on whether that will actually materialise.
I haven’t started or finished reading any new books since last week. A travesty. I’m still plodding on with The Remains of The Day, as I mentioned last week. This is probably the slowest I’ve been reading in a while. I think I’ve just been busier, in the swing of summer and haven’t locked in reading time. Perhaps I’ll make that a task for myself this week, to actually schedule some reading time.
I’m not going to leave you high and dry, I did find a really interesting article about the impact that cleaning the Isar River has had on Munich’s residents.
If cities around the world invest in cleaning up their waterways, they will create crucial lifelines to make the hottest months more bearable in environments hit disproportionately hard by global warming. Healthy rivers are just the kind of “green infrastructure” cities need — ecosystems that significantly enhance the quality of urban life.
Britney Spears’ memoir is coming!!! Release date is in October, oh how very exciting. I’ve definitely said multiple times before how much I love listening to memoir and autobiographies on Audible. Hearing the words of the person detailing the story of their own life is magical. It’s basically like going to an in-person author reading. An immersive experience.
Starbucks now have a drink called “iced brown sugar oat shaken espresso” and it’s amazing. I’ve never been one of the girls with the really long-named Starbucks drinks order before. It’s kind of exciting to lean into a cliché, you know. Romanticise your life and all that.
Prime Day was last week. As if our consumerist culture needs any encouragement to buy things we don’t need. I saw New York Magazine tell readers that “If You Buy One Thing on Prime Day, Make It This Jaw-Sculpting NuFace”. Even more money in Bezos’ back pocket and promotion of toxic beauty culture? No thanks.
This week I’ve been thinking about all the different ways inspiration shows up and threads itself into my creative thinking. How it could be years since I read a certain book or thought about a particular film and yet I see the patterns of influence in something I’ve worked on more recently. So this week instead of a quote, I want you to keep your eyes peeled for inspiration in the unlikeliest of places.
That shaken brown sugar iced oat concoction is THE ONE!
