Fuck it. I know said, like, less than 3 weeks ago I didn’t plan on committing to bringing back The Offcuts as an entire weekly piece but here we are. Things change, people change, okay.
For those who’ve been here long enough to remember, The Offcuts was a weekly round-up of different influences and notable mentions that didn’t make it into the newsletter. Every week it would follow the same format: Newly read (a notable mention of a book, article etc.), Saved for later (from TV shows to new countries I want to visit), super spicy (something I’m a little obsessed with or really enjoyed, could be anything), In the bin (something that’s annoyed me) and A prompt arrival (a little word, writing prompt or words of wisdom).
I think I’ll keep it the same and see how it goes. PLEASE comment or tell me if you’ve got any suggestions or things you want to see more or less of.
I’ve literally just given you 5 book recommendations that I rated 5 stars on Goodreads. If you missed it, I’m not sad but I am disappointed. Make it up to me by clicking here.
I have a list of lots of things I want to do this summer. You know how much I love making lists. I’ve made a crack at it already and I’m prepped and ready to get more things ticked off. Three days ago I booked an impromptu solo trip to Seville - it’s been almost a year since my last trip alone! I’m also seeing the Fragile Beauty exhibition at the V&A with my sister today. How cultured.
This weather 🥵 I swam four times in the Lido over the last week and it was glorious. Although the Lido is heated it rarely feels like it. With the intense heat of last week, the water was a Goldilocks ‘just right’ kind of bliss. I even caught a silly-shaped swimsuit tan on my back. I will admit that now it’s the summer holidays, perhaps a little “happy hour” for adults only could be nice… so I don’t fear being whacked by a foam noodle while I’m going about my serious business.
We’ve got squatters. They walk on two legs, flag their wings and constantly squawk outside our flat. The amount of seagulls I’ve seen and heard over the last week is so absurd to the point I can’t think straight. They taunt me with their collective evil laugh. I suppose they’re no longer considered seagulls this far inland. Just gulls. Lostgulls. Hackneygulls. East end gulls, a dead end world.
I was in
’s archives earlier in the week and one particular phrase she’d written struck me: “So much of life is lived in the in-between”. It served as a reminder to be present and enjoy all the smaller moments that create memories and bring us joy.
Wait this is so cute!! Love all these sections. Thank you for sharing FNA ❤️🥹
