Another manic Monday. Can’t relate tbh. When this goes out I’ll be on the first leg of my flight to Thailand. *Laughs in Avois Points* Last week did feel pretty manic, however. Maybe because I had a lot to sort out before my trip? I’m not sure. I think the days leading up to a holiday become a self-fulfilling prophecy for me that I need a holiday. Everything feels more overwhelming than normal. I’m convinced I do it on purpose to validate the holiday. Being able to say “Ugh, I need a holiday” when I feel stressed makes the whole thing feel more deserving.
I’ve always been a little bit obsessed with Ruby Wax. From the moment when I first saw her on the TV as a child. I think I’m naturally drawn to outspoken and powerful women who make misogynists feel uncomfortable. Although at the time, it was probably her wild red hair that did it for me. Her new memoir I'm Not As Well As I Thought I Was came out last month and I just finished listening to it on Audible. I think I’ve said before that I love listening to memoirs and autobiographies on Audible. Hearing someone read their own words out loud with their voice is so powerful. They know exactly how to recount their own story. It adds such deeper meaning to a person’s story. The book is about her stay in a Mental Health Clinic last year. So much of Ruby Wax’s struggle with her mental health has been entwined with her portrayal by the media. Found it all very interesting and strangely quite enjoyable.
We’ve got just over a month left to wait until Greta Gerwig’s Barbie hits the big screen. I am OH so very excited. I had this hardback Barbie book when I was younger that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about in the midst of the buzz for the film. It had really artsy shots of Barbie through the decades. Très chic. Praying that it is still up my mum’s loft and not in a rubbish tip somewhere.
One of life’s simple pleasures in the summer truly is sitting in the park with your friends and a couple of tinnies. Feeling the grass between your toes, surrounded by so many other people all doing the same thing. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
The unfortunate chance of ending up with your face nuzzled into someone’s sweaty pits on the tube has been at an all time high this week. Stay safe out there. May the odds be ever in your favour. P.S. drink water and don’t forget to put your deodorant on.
One of the Love Island contestants Ella (yes, I’m watching it. What else can you rely on to watch every evening on TV apart from Emmerdale? Leave me alone) said “I’m actually too pretty for this” in response to her love interest Tyrique entertaining connections with other islanders. So, in the face of your problems this week, be more Ella.
